Paulett Sapergia

Saskatchewan Artist

Originally from Old Wives, Sk., Canada (28 miles southwest of Moose Jaw), Paulett now resides at Grasswood, Sk., (south of Saskatoon). In her studio at Grasswood, Paulett has established a business, Chickadee Designs, which stocks many of her original artworks, greeting cards, reproductions, and much more portraying her admiration and respect for Wildlife. Because Paulett is a prairie girl, almost all of her subjects are Saskatchewan Wildlife, flora and fauna, which she knows very well. Paulett has used most mediums, such as oils, acrylics, charcoal, pastel and today her medium of choice is an opaque designer watercolor, called GOUACHE (pronounced “gwash”) to portray her wildlife.

In 1973, Paulett received her certificate of graduation from Art Instruction Schools, Minneapolis, Minnesota certifying she had completed the prescribed correspondence courses for advertising and illustrating.

In 2004, Paulett was invited by the Royal Canadian Mint

Invited to submit a 25-cent coin design to commemorate Saskatchewan’s Centennial in 2005

Her design was of a Western Meadowlark perched on a fencepost draped with barbed wire. In the background the design has a grain elevator, one of our prairie sentinels, and a railroad track leading from it to the wheat which flanks the coin on either side. And, of course, the prairie horizon line producing the spectacular sunrises and sunsets for which Saskatchewan is so famous. Canadians were allowed to vote on a coin for the first time in the Mint’s history; and Paulett’s coin was awarded 14,427 votes out of 24,381 cast. Paulett is very honoured and proud to have had her coin design chosen to commemorate Saskatchewan’s 100th Birthday. Read about the complete design process on the website.

Paulett has been juried into the Sundog Art Society, as well, Chickadee Designs has a booth annually at the Collector’s Show; and her artwork has been on display at the Centre East Galleries, Gallery on the Bridges, the Western Development Museum, and art auctions such as the Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Paulett has won awards at the Saskatoon Exhibition, and the annual Reflections of Nature Wildlife Art Show and has judged on a junior, novice, intermediate & open level.

Paulett’s Grasswood Studio is open to the public by appointment as per phone # and email listed below. Paulett has conducted Drawing and Painting Workshops at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre and the SWAA Reflections of Nature Wildlife Art Show; and has visited a few schools giving Basic Drawing Lessons to students.
